INTERNATIONAL
FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP (IFC)
PROFESSIONAL CAGEFIGHTING
DEBUTS IN PENTICTON FOR FIRST TIME
EVER!
Tickets go on sale Friday, May
1st at 10:00 a.m.
Penticton, BC:
The South Okanagan Events Centre and F.I.T.E Club are pleased to present
International Fighting Championship (IFC) on Saturday, August 15th
at 8:00 p.m. at the South Okanagan
Events Centre. This event will mark the return of the International Fighting
Championship (IFC) to Canada.
The IFC was the first to debut the controversial professional fighting sport of
Mixed Martial Arts in this country. The IFC efforts in Quebec Province,
which were seen on Viewers Choice Canada and RDS, lead to regulation by that
province and eventually across most of Canada.
Tickets are $30, $40,
$52.50, $70 and $80* and are on
sale Friday, May 1st at 10:00 a.m. exclusively through ValleyFirstTIX.com, the South Okanagan Events
Centre Box Office, the Wine Country Visitors Centre or charge by phone at 1-877-763-2849.
(*additional service charges apply)
Mixed Martial Arts allows the
fighters to punch, kick, knee, throw, choke, forearm, arm bar, leg lock and
otherwise incapacitate their opponents. They are not allowed to bite,
bend back their opponents toes or fingers, spit or pull their opponents hair.
Otherwise, just about anything else goes while locked in the cage. Women fight
under the same rules as men. Opponents are matched by weight and skill level.
The IFC will be bringing a
soon-to-be announced ten person fight card to Penticton
which will feature some of North Americas’
best fighters. Former and current IFC Champions include Chuck Liddell, Eugene
Jackson, Rich Franklin, Tim Silva, Jens Pulver, Dan Severn, Igor Vovchanchin,
Matt Lindland, Paul Buentello, Jeremy Horn and many of the other top fighters
in MMA. IFC fighters come from many backgrounds; they are respected as some of
the best athletes in the world. Most use a combination of boxing, wrestling,
open hand combat and martial arts fighting techniques in the cage. Fights can
be won by knockout, submission or by the scorecard. There are three five-minute
rounds in a non-championship bout and five five-minute rounds in a championship
bout. Known for their extreme, no holds barred fighting in the steel cage, IFC
fighters will do just about anything necessary to win.
The event is sanctioned by
the Penticton Athletic Commission. The action starts at 8:00 p.m. and it isn’t
over until the last fight ends. Great mixed martial arts cage fights, smoking
hot cage girls, and plenty of action – the party is all under one roof at South
Okanagan Events Centre on August 15th.
